Chinese Stir-fry Beef With Green Beans


1/2 pound flank steak, sliced into 1/4-inch thick, 2-inch long slices
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon dry sherry
1/2 Tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon sugar
1 pound fresh green beans
4 Tablespoons cooking oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon MSG (can be left out)


  1. Mix steak with soy sauce, sherry, cornstarch, and sugar. Set
  2. aside. Remove stems and strings from green beans and break
  3. beans into 2 or 3 sections. Wash and drain well. Put 2
  4. Tablespoons oil in a hot skillet, high heat, add beef mix and stir constantly for 1 minute.
  5. Remove to a bowl. Add rest of oil to skillet; stir beans into skillet, add 1/2 cup water and bring to a boil. Cook over medium heat, covered, for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. If liquid is about to cook away, add 1/4 cup more water.
  6. Add salt, MSG and beef to beans. Mix well, serve when beef is warmed.
